1994 Camry no start/weak spark/intermittent fuel pump!
I'm working on a friend's '94 Camry 2.2 a/t. Car ran fine when he got to work in the morning; when it was time to leave, came out and it wouldn't start. At first, it had no fuel pump at any time, but must have had spark because it was trying to run. Tested the EFI relay under the hood and it was good; tested the circuit opening relay behind the glovebox and it was bad. Replaced it. Now... when I turn the key on there is no fuel pump, while cranking there's no fuel pump, but as soon as I let off the key the relay behind the glovebox clicks and pump runs for a few seconds. So it at least has some fuel pressure now lol, but it won't fire at all. Pulled the plugs and they were gas fouled... replaced them, still no start. Pulled a plug wire slightly away from cap as a friend cranked and it has really really weak looking yellow spark. Swapped out ignitor with a known good one--no start. Rotor is turning (timing belt had been replaced in the last six months anyway); tested coil and pickup coil and all ohms were within spec... distance between distributor shaft and signal generator was fine...
I don't know how I've managed to go backwards on this thing lol. Seems like at first I had spark, replaced a relay, and now I have no spark. I was careful when testing too... no sparks or smoke... yet lol:)
Check engine light is on when the key is on...
What am I missing? Got to be something simple... maybe... hopefully...
Thanks in advance!!
