Can a disable child still get child support if living in a group home
Will a disable child still get child support from his dad if he is living in a group home and mom is out of state?

How old is the child? Was child support ever ordered before?

The child is almost 18 years of age and about to graduate from HS. Dad has been paying child support since they got separated at age 1. Mom has kept him all this years now she has decided she want to move to California with or without him. She has considered putting him in a group home and still thinks dad has to pay for child support even though he is not living with her. Dad works 6 days a week and 10 hours a day and can't care for him at this time. He lives in a small home that is not modified for a person with disability.

It is possible that he may be on the hook for 1/2 of medical expenses if the child has a life long medical need. But both parents would be required to contribute if the child is in a group home setting if that is the case. Was the child's disabilities mentioned in the support papers? Is someone applying for SSD for the child if they can't work?
