If the fan has no pull chains and won't work from the wall switch, am I looking at a wall switch problem or something else?

If the fan has no pull chains and won't work from the wall switch, am I looking at a wall switch problem or something else?
This just happened to one of my friends, a lot of these hunter fans run off remote only. He just moved into new house and was freaking cause we could not get the fan on from switches in his bedroom. We realized after we took down the cover of fan(we where going to put voltage meter on it to see it was receiving power) we realized tehre was transponder. We looked higha and low and found out remote was in closet.
Did you just move into the house? Perhaps they didn't mount the remote on the wall over the switch. Check the drawers? All the hunter fans I've ever seen/sold that didn't have pull chains were remote only. If you can't find the remote, they sell remotes separate. The only thing is you may have to take the fan down to make sure you get them on the same signal. (the remote and the receiver, that is). Hopefully you can avoid that situation and find the remote somewhere.
Edit: if you just put it up, this is a whole different story. There should have been a remote in the box.
What make and model is the fan?
