Why should a financial manager be familiar with the business cycle

If you were a financial manager, don't you think that it would be wise for you to know about supply and demand over varying periods so that you can plan how to manage a business according to how it might profit the most with the least amount of loss, rather than keep on doing things as though there was no fluctuation in the market?
