Hi,
I have a remote controlled ceiling fan and for the past 2 days it has been turning on randomly. Do you think it has something to do with the batteries? I'm going to say the fan is about 4 or 5 years old.
It could be your batteries but I had many things control my remote devices.Anything from fluorescent lamps to car keys on a glass coffee table reflecting the sun's rays.
If your batteries are failing you don't get phantom lighting , you get no lighting. Could be interference from another remote that could even be next door. Try opening the hand held and the canopy receiver. They each will have a bank of dip switches, move all switches on both to ON.
Or any alternate setting where they both match. See:

I have noticed that some time ago that the NEW SPIRAL LIGHT BULB do interfere with all kind of remote control, I have a ceiling fan in my bedroom with spiral light bulb and when the light is on the TV and other remote will not work , so I swapped the spiral bulb with standard bulb and never had any problem with any remote again.
So if you have spiral bulb around your home swap them for reg bulb and see if it will help you. This remind me that my sister in law has one of these remote control light fan in her dining room and she had her kitchen remodeled and they install recess lighting with spiral light bulb ever since the fan will not work,
I will go over her home and swap out those spiral bulb and see what gives.
If it work I will post later.
Good luck
Jai
