I recently acquired a riding lawnmower from my father. It worked for him, and since I've had it, worked for me twice. When starting up, it gives a little trouble cranking, but after a few attempts, starts up and no troubles since then.

However, yesterday, I tried to start it up, it tried to crank over once or twice, then stopped, and now does nothing at all. Not a peep out of it except a clicking noise when I turn the key. I took the battery (brand new as of three weeks ago) to an autoparts store and it tested just fine. I even tried to jumpstart it when my car, but nothing budged. I bought a new spark plug, but overall, nothing has made a dent in the problem.

Can anyone help?

Check to make sure the pinion on the starter is not wedged in the ring gear. It can be freed by turning the engine backwards by hand.
