I live in Kansas City, ks. I have a seven year old son, who is living with his father and step mother, and I have him on weekends or weeks at a time. The concern I have is the alcohol and drug use happening at the fathers house while my son is there. Both of the other parents are supposed to be recovering addicts, but I can prove without a doubt that they have relapsed! I picked up my son today and the father was passed out, which has been normal latley, and the step mother was obviously under the infulance of a narcotic. She was slurred in speech, her face looked like someone had dragged it along the concret, and she was wiggling non-stop. If I had to chhose what she is on I would have to say Meth. I too am a recovering addict, so I know first hand what signs to watch for. I am also a student in college getting a degree in Addiction Colunceling. I want to help them, but my fear is my sons safety! Please can someone help me? My first instinct is to never take him back he cannot defen himself, and I have seen the step mother smoke weed and drink alcohol.

If your going to go that route then your going to need to file emergency custody oreds with the courts and also ask for drug testing at that time.

I just wanted to let you know I decided to talk to the father and step-mother about what my concerns were. They tried to give me some story about her being sick, but when I got her alone she told me the truth. I am worried about them, but we all know we can only help those who want it. I am currently having my son live me as of yesterday. They agreed with no problem. Now I just have to worry about taking care of my son. I was scared to get the othorities involved, his father has already had that and I just want to take care of my son.
