    Strange even for US campaigns
Unemployed Alvin Greene somehow managed to obtain $10,000 to get his name on the Democrat South Carolina primary ballot for Senate to run against current Republican Senator Jim DeMint .

Then he did nothing .He didn't set up a website .He didn't distribute lawn signs. He didn't debate his opponents .He held no rally's or even fundraisers... nothing .

Yet when the ballots were counted after Tuesday's primary he won by a landslide receiving almost 60% of the vote.

Oh yeah ,the guy is also accused of a felony charge involving a college coed and pornography.

Now ,amid calls by Dems for Greene to quit the race ,Rep. Jim Clyburn is claiming that Greene is a Republican plant.
    Quote:

“There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary,” Mr. Clyburn said on a radio show. “I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant.”

The ballot has yet to be certified ,but I think there is a different question that Clyburn needs to ask . Were the 100,000 voters who cast a vote for Greene also plants ?

The possibility of putting Greene on the ballot as a Republican tactic exists. Jim DeMint's loss can only be put on Jim DeMint's shoulders, however. I'd be fascinated to see Greene on the ballot in November.

Isn't DeMint pretty much a lock to win? I don't see why he would need a plant, but the circus in SC sure has been interesting to watch.

Like Texas, SC has open primaries so Republicans could have voted for Greene but they would have had to skip voting in the GOP governor primary. I doubt that many South Carolinians would have wanted to sacrifice having their say in that race to give unneeded help to DeMint or just make the Dems look foolish.

I'm impressed, too. In the midst of all the SC craziness she definitely provides a bit of sanity.

The Greene mystery has been solved, voters confused him with Al Green.

Sometimes I wanna leave and then I'll say
It wouldn't make sense now anyway
But forgive me baby if I do wrong
I haven't been a true man for so long

I saw him on CNN and I thought it was a Saturday Night Live routine until I heard he was a real candidate. Pretty scary. The reporter even asked him if he was under the influence of drugs or mentally unstable. Someone off camera was also giving him answers.

SC Dems tried to oust Greene as their candidate but apparently decided they were in a no-win situation. Keep him and they've got the guy who thinks he's the best candidate to be Time magazine's man of the year. Boot him in favor the other guy, who is white, and they're racists. So, they decided to keep him.

And on the other side, the state GOP is trying to undermine Nikki Haley. I guess neither party is interested in the people's choice.

The Dems decided to keep Greene on the ballot.

Best guess is the Dems don't think they can unseat DeMint .So why create more fodder by dumping an unemployed vet.

But this should be a warning to both parties to the risks of holding open primaries.

The GOP never misses an opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.

Haley came under a vicious Borking during the primaries also. I expect she'll survive the run-off.
