H1B candidate left US in 2008. Do I need to file 2009 taxes?
I was on H1B with visa until Sept 2009. I left US in Mar 2008 to attend to family emergency. I then didn't return to US after that and quit my job in Sept 2008. Since I didn't come back, I couldn't file the 1040C or form 2063 - US departing Alien Income Tax Return but I did file the 2008 returns online and paid all my taxes. Questions
    1. Do I need to file 2009 taxes even if I didn't live in US for whole of 2009 and received no income?
    2. DO I need certificate of compliance from IRS? If so how can I do it?

Thanks for any help on this. I like to remain a law abiding US alien and don't want any trouble hence asking these questions.

    1) Negative; no return is due.

    2) However, you DO need to submit a Residency Termination Statement to the IRS to let them know your new status.
