    KISS

Power meters take into account of the power factor.

The utility will sometimes surcharge business customers because their PF is high because their equipment has to be overrated.

I won't go into 3 phase power formulas, but for single phase sinusoidal voltage and current; power = VI cos(theta). Cos(theta) is the power factor.

Motors and the way your utility meters commercial business can affect your electric bill. The way you start your motors and the nature of the industry also plays a part.

It's a complex issue, but it starts with how the utility bills. Flat, demand, surcharges due to power factor.
