commercial rooftop ac unit is about 4'x6' but installed at a resadential home in the back yard, what ton and voltage do these large units normally come in? And can they actually be installed in a residential home up to code?

Tonnage and voltage will be listed on the information tag affixed to the unit.
Note: A 3 phase unit will usually not work in a residential setting as well as 440 and 880 volt units or anything besides a 220/240 single phase unit will probably not work also. You are looking for 220/240 single phase for residential usage.
They come in all tonnage sizes and a measurement of 4X6 means nothing except to say it is a guess at 2 to 5 ton.
They could be installed in a residential home BUT the modification costs will probably be prohibitive.
Somewhere on the unit there will be a name brand, a model number,a serial number,, without this info there is no way to tell the ton and voltage,, without knowing the voltage I could not say if it can be used in a home
