    Using a electric pipe snake
I have a clogged drain, there was some food put down my drain by a child in the kitchen sink. The kitchen sink and the bathroom tub's plumbing are on the same line as the rooms are next to each other. Now everything that goes down the kitchen sink comes back up in the tub. I was going to rent a electric snake but I'm not sure if I should run it through the kitchen line or from the roof? And is there a certain size I should get?

Do you have a basement, do you have any clean outs in the drain line?

Look for Clean out plug. It should be somewhere on the wall. Most likely, you have 2" drains. Rent 3/8" snake. Run it entire length. Repeat several times. If you can, put inside and turn water ON full blast. Cleaned drain should absorb all incoming water. If not, re-snake.

I don't have a basement, In my laundry room there is access to the line, would that be a clean out plug? Other than that the only thing I can find is the one on the roof. It is an old house

This is what a cleanout tee looks like. (see image) I t might have a different cover but they're all the same.
If you don't have a clean out inan stalled then you can snake from either the kitchen or the bath roof vent. Put out enough snake to reach the base and 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom
