Is it possible to get fines turned into community service?
Is is at all possible to get fines turned into community service to help pay them off? My boyfriend has about $7000.00 in fines brought on by jailing and such... I don't know if you CAN but I'd like to know if you can help pay them off with community service and if you can, how?
How do you go about talking to Probation or Court about getting it approved or changed?

    Hello K:

IF it can be done, only the judge can do it. I wouldn't even mention it to my PO.

He'll need to file a motion, but I wouldn't know what to say in it, other than what you said here. If he's not represented by a lawyer, he can probably make his request in a letter to the judge. In it, ASK the judge to consider his letter to be a motion. He should send a copy of his letter to the prosecutor, and send them both certified, return receipt requested.

I really don't feel a Judge would approve $7,000 worth of community service. That would amount to probably 90 years of weekends to pay off.

What good reason does your boyfriend have for not paying off the fines? Why couldn't he even pay $100 a month?
