    Windows XP won't load
    Hi,

My computer was fine this morning and I turned it off before I left. I was gone for About an hour, When I got home my computer was on but it won't do anything. The screen was blank. So I turned it off by the power button and waited then turned it back on, now it won't load windows at all. Could I have some type of virus? Please Help

What does happen? Does the screen remain blanK. Do you see the CMOS setup screen? Have you tried booting to your XP CD?

I Need to know what you do see on the screen inorder to figure this out. I assume your monitor is working? And do you see a start screen with some white lettering ? Does it start to load windows and freeze up or never even try. Please provide this info to help narrow it down.

It is also possible that your video card has gone bad, or in the case of a add-on card it may be loose. Do you see indicator lights on the front of your PC? Or can you hear it running ?

OK, is there a green light or an orange light on the front of your monitor ?

Based on what you have told, you tried a boot disk and it stays blank, you tried a different monitor and it stays blank, yet you here the machine running, I have to suspect the video output card is bad, or possibly loose. Are you familiar with correct card intsallation on a PC ?

Did you try space bar or enter button on your keyboard by chance? Some machines used to have problems with a sleep/hibernate mode that they would not want to wake-up from. Aside from that, you could take the side off your machine and push on the video card (lightly) and (with power cord unplugged) to make sure it is seated tight.

Well, you could take the side cover off your pc(with power cord unplugged) and (lightly) push on the card to make sure it is seated tight.

First check the connections. Unhook the monitor and reconnect it. If that doesn't help, you obviously have another monitor, so swap them. If the other monitor works, then the monitor has gone bad. If the other montior doesn't work, then your video card may be bad. If that's the case, you will need to replace it.
