I recentlywound up with a large, chest freezer that must be at least ten years old. After moving it into a new room of the house (I had to prop it on its side), the freezer was running but not getting cold at all. It wasn't left very long upright before plugging it in again, either. The was I understand it, oil from the compressor may have reached areas where it shouldn't be. Is this fridge ruined? Can I fix it without finding a specialist?

I will have to go out on a limb here, because actually no one thinks a woman knows diddly squat about freezer stuff, fridge stuff, etc. but I have been around actually long enough to have had several experiences with both. I would say it isn't the oil from the compressor, but could only need a freon charge. For that you would have to call a specialist, as you can't do that yourself. Freon is a controlled substance.
