Type of wire needed for electric meter
I have a 100 amp main breaker in my service panel. (not a sub panel). I'm changing the service panel to a newer 100amp panel. So I would like to change the wires coming from the meter outside to the service panel. The current wire is not in any type of pipe. It's three wires wrapped in a weather proof jacket. Can any one tell me what type and size wire I need to run. By the way I live in the Chicago land area.

    Thanks guys.

The cable you see is called SEC cable. #2 alumimum 3 wire cable is needed from the utility connection to the meter. Need to check with your local code if SEC cable is still allowed, or will conduit be needed.

I would be surprised if Chicago didn't require it in conduit---seeing that it's their golden rule.
