I am just starting with becoming a wedding planner. I have done 3 weddings and I really need to start my portfolio to enhance my business. Where do I start? I have been invited to a wedding Expo by Get Married Editor and I need my portfolio put together at least by June 6th. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Look at other wedding planners portfolios and mimic them. Take the stuff that you like from them, take notes and then you'll be able to come up with your own.

I would suggest that you start with a beautiful book that really fits your personality and the personality of your business. Then type up a list of services (you don't really need to include pricing in this - you can do that one on one when you meet with people). If you price in a certain way such as a percentage of wedding costs, or per person, or per hour, you can put some package pricing informqation in the book but not up front - just have that available.

Then have a lot of photographs, artfully displayed. Don't make it like a family craft project - make it professional. Photos generally look best mounted on black, for example.

Show the different elements in a way that gives a sense of the overall feel for each of the three weddings... color scheme, special touches that were unique to the couple, special flourishes that were your signature and things like that.

If you can, include letters from each bride and groom. Don't hessitate to call them and ask them to write a letter recommending your service if you had a good experience with them.

If you want you can list your preferred vendors and include details like a blank invitation, fabric swatch, etc.

As an alternative to a book, which only one person can look at at a time, you might consider some kind of table-top display with enlarged photos, and some kind of printed handout (do it on your computer, print in color on good papers at a quick printer) that people can take with them at an expo. At such an event, nobody will stop and look at your book. The book is more useful once you have a meeting with the couple and are selling your services to them one on one.
