Have you tried going to AA meetings?

The use of the medication is for those who need extra effort to quit,not a retainer for long term use,a crutch,so to speak.

If you can't find this med,what are you going to do?

This medication also has some very serious side effects. You need to refrain from ANYTHING containing alcohol, that includes mouthwash, cologne/perfume, etc.

Where have you had a problem getting a prescription? It is antabuse your asking about?

My fiancé is in millwood hosp and the doctors there will not perscribe it and I talked with my personal doc and he can't , even with a evaluation. So where can we go so she can feel confident and in control with her problem. It must be in the dallas and ftworth Texas. A list of docs and clinics would be helpful thank you.

Yes aa meetings are a ongoing prosses. And if we don't get the med will will have to just try harder with faith. I just don't want her to hurt any more then she has to.

1) There is no list of physicians or clinics that prescribe specific drugs; and
2) No reputable physician will "write over" the treating physician.

Millwood specializes in substance abuse and mental health. They have a treatment plan and it does not include antabuse (disulfiram). Antabuse, in my opinion, is never justified and is contrary to the very concept of addiction. It is dangerous and without therapeutic value.

You and/or your fiancé have invested in Millwood. To contemplate circumventing their treatment plan even prior to discharge is foolish and wasteful. Supplementing the treatment with antabuse, if you do obtain it, could very well cause immeasurable harm not only to treatment outcome but the future health of your fiancé as well.

I don't know what you've heard about antabuse, or where that information came from. But it is not a benign drug to be randomly selected or thrown into a treatment process "for good measure."

Here's hoping for the best possible outcome for your fiancé.

If she is in treatment and they don't think it's wise to use the med.she is SOL,sorry so blunt.Alcoholism isn't an inpatient cured illness,as the reference to AA should have already shown you/her.

Millions of people have recovered without the use of medication help,it takes as much dedication to recovery as it did to using.

Is this trip to treatment the first or one of many?(I ask because of the medication request,if she was using it before,she had to have some kind of exposure to treatment,right?)
