    Hard to explain. Please read.
I noticed lately that my central air/heat has been been going on and off

Several times before it actually shuts off when the air is on. Tonight it

Came on and went off once real quick and right back on. Then I smelt

The heat on (dust burning) ,but the compressor was running. The

Compressor shut off like it should but the fan kept running and when I

Felt the air it was warm. I then turned the thermostat to off and it kept

Running. I went and got a thermostat because when it was shutting on

And off real quick I could tap on it and it would shut off. It still runs with

It turned off. I just yanked the thermostat off the wall and it still runs.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Is this a electric furnace? Most likely a stuck heat sequencer.

Thanks a lot for the response. Is there a way to check it with a meter?

Turn the t-stat off, check to see if you still have power going threw it. Tape the center top with a screwdriver see if it shuts off.
