I've been looking at sewing machines, I want to learn how to use one, and eventually make really cute dresses for Rachel. Like this one:

I'd also like to hem my own pants, and I just think it's a very good skill to have.

The thing is I don't know what sewing machine to start using. I'll be taking a sewing class to learn the skill.

So if there is anyone that is an intermediate or expert sewer, please let me know!

Hi Mud. I would suggest a sewing class. The dress you show is not for beginners. In the sewing classes they go over the type of machines that cover what the sewer wants to accomplish, i.e. very advanced students who want to do home decorating and make wall coverings, upholstery covers. etc. would need machines that would take many attachments. Or you could go on line at Google and investigate the type of machine you want, but still, I would suggest a sewing class.

I think it's a great idea and a super hobby, especially making dresses for your girl.

And yes, I am an intermediate sewer.

Would this be a good machine for a beginner?

Well a neighbor had a singer sewing machine from the 1960's I bought it. It works really well. I signed up for classes to learn the sewing basics. I'm so excited! :)

You got a good one there, the older ones are probably better built anyway.

You can always experiment and teach yourself too.

Yeah I was told that older ones are better because the ones that they sell at department stores are pretty much disposable ones. I also heard that the NEW singers are actually some other brand that they just slap the singer brand over it.:eek: Either way I didn't want to spend a fortune on a sewing machine.

Ooh and I found a cool site where you can make dresses out of old t shirts.. and it actually looks cute.
