    My future?
Okay, I have been doing A LOT of thinking and I have decided what I want to do for the rest of my life :)
I want to be a psychiatrist. I have always wanted to be a psychologist but it just seems like it's not as fun. I really love helping people and I was hoping that someone could help me out. Offer up some advice, please? I am really good at talking to people, people seem to be very open with me.
I first realized I wanted to do this after I talked a girl I barely new out of suicide. She just started talking to me about how her sister killed herself and she was considering it. I talked to her about it and she seems to be doing a lot better.
I am already researching various mental disorders and what not.
If you have any advice, I would seriously appriciate it :)

    How old are you?
Whatever you decide to do, you'll first need the education to do it. Are you in the process of doing that?

Are you good at listening to people?

How are your analytical skills, i.e. figuring out how things work? Do you like to do jigsaw puzzles, repair toys, untangle fishing line?

A psychiatrist has a medical degree, an M.D. has spent many years in school, and time as an intern and as a resident. Do you have the grit to do that much schooling?

I am very interested jigsaw puzzles and that sort of thing. I know I would have to go to college for about ten years. I'd really love it. I am a very detirmined person. I am in high school at the moment, going into my junior year (just turned 16). I am taking psychology and psyics and some classes I will need for that profession this year.

I am 16, still in high school. I am going to graduate and I am going to go to college, no doubt about that.

Then you are on your way.
Make sure you talk to counselors about the classes you need to take, and if you know someone in that field, talk to them as well.

Everyone eventually needs someone to talk to, especially an unbiased person who is a good listener. Freud called psychotherapy/psychoanalysis the "talking cure." I can't begin to tell you how many of my clients have walked away saying, "It was so good just talking about my problems. I feel so much better already."

What psych courses have you taken already and are taking now?
