Air handler unit hot to touch
    Hi,

I've had a problem where by noon my temp, set at 75, will go to 82, and can't catch back up until sometime in the middle of the night. I've installed a radiant barrier, ensured air flow through soffets and garage, and recently added some more insulation.

It's been since last summer my unit was checked, it's a 2006 Trane unit, rated to be effective at or above my sq. ft.

The Air Handler Unit, in the attic, is absolutely toasty, really hot to the touch, should it be giving out heat?

I plan to have it all inspected, but if there is something I can diagnose I'd tackle it myself.

Should I insulate the whole unit ?

2006 unit should be under warranty

So should there be no heat upon touching the unit?

Are you talking about the airhandler itself or the plenium/trunkline? Do you have a electric or gas furnace? More info would help before you could get an answer,, but I will say you should not insulate the furnace/airhandler any more than what has been done in the factory

Everything is electric, I may have the terminology wrong, the part that is the hottest is a solid metal manufactured piece, that is between the return box which is covered in tape and the other side also covered in tape that leads to all the vents. The parts either side covered in the reflective tape are not hot to the touch. Thank you for your help on this.

From left to right, return/intake, big filter, manufactured metal bit, output box to all vents.

If it is 120 degrees or so in your attic the metal will be hot to the touch
