I've had a jade plant for about a year now. Not the easies to take care of and it stresses me out when something happens to it. So I looked at my plant today and noticed that there was a chunk of the stem missing almost like it was eaten away or someone had taken sissors and sliced form the bottom up. Here are some pictures. Hope someone can tell me how to prevent form damaging my jade.

I didn't get the picture, but usually Jade is pretty easy to grow, you can cut off a piece and put in dirt and it will grow from there.

Maybe you are over watering it? Is it draining OK?

Not overwatering. It was outside when it rained and I had watered before that but its dry now.. I don't think its water rot. I think its bugs... my concern is because it wasn't like this yesterday and now it is. The url I posted is my Facebook try copying and pasting into address bar. Maybe try fresh sterilized dirt and transplant, or just cut off the offending part. It will grow back, unless the bugs are in the soil. Does it look like snail or slug damage? Is there shiny slime anywhere?

Nope no slug trails.. but think it could be my AC affecting the plant? All of the plants had like baby spiders and a couple white jumpers. And before I saw the spiders I thought maybe spider mites. But no evidence of them so I don't know. And where could I post these pics so you could se them? Lol

I don't know what I don't know means, sorry:confused:
There is a paperclip on top where I am writing and you can use that to put the picture on. But I don't know if I can help you anymore by seeing the picture.

Stir your soil around and see if you see anything come up or anything in the soil. It would be easy to transplant your jade, they are very hardy plants. You could even rinse off all the roots and put them in new clean soil (packed afterward) and it will be fine.

If you have any questions about transplanting, please ask. Sometimes something easy for one is not the same for another.:)

I do need to get a bigger pot. The one time I rinsed off the jade roots it was pruney after that. But maybe that time it was water rot? And I have had a resent problem with fungas knats. Pesky things. It's not bad but my soil in most is not good. I use sand as a top cover to keep them from laying more eggs. Anyway. When I get back to my computer I will try the paperclip.

I live in Florida and I've had a jade plant in a large pot for years. They grow anywhere and require very little attention. Some times branches just fall off but a little water and a few hits of fish emulsion keeps it happy. Here's how to post pictures.

How do I add pictures and other file types to my post?
