ITIN rejection and typo errors in tax return
    Hi

I am on H1B visa. I submitted my tax return application and W-7 form for my wife to ITIN office on March 13, 2010. (My wife is a housewife and she is H4 visa, she is in USA since Feb 10, 2009). I owed $1200 to federal so I sent them $1200 money order with extension application. Federal has given me extension for next 6 months.

On tax return, I made a typo mistake. I spelled my name wrong: instead of Abbasi, I wrote Aabbasi.

On May 19, 2010 I received a rejection letter for my wife W-7 application. Reason was invalid information about me. They asked to resubmit W-7 form with correct information.

On rejection letter they also mentioned:

"A valid U.S. federal tax return will be processed with the temporary IRS number. In addition, a valid U.S. federal tax return submitted with a rejected W-7 application for a dependent or spouse will be sent forward for processing. The dependent exemption will be disallowed, and a spouse who is declaring income will be assigned a temporary internal Revenue Service center number."

As far as State Tax return is concerned, I have not submitted State Tax return yet.

Can you please guide me what should I do now?

    Regard
    Abbasi

    Abbasi:

You will need to amend the return and re-submit the Form W-7 with the amendment (Form 1040X).

If you need professional help to do this, contact me at [email protected]. Since I am a Certifying Acceptance Agent, I should be able to expedite the ITIN submission to about one month processing (versus the 6-8 week processing time that is typical for this time of year).
