I saw this movie years ago about a young african american man who started college. He wasn't able to do the work and every time he went to ask the white teacher she was afraid of him. Finally after he got angry she told him he had been lied to all these years by his teachers, he was not ready to do college work. She agrees to tutor him after she finds out he is the first to go to college in his family and they are counting on him. I believe he had a younger sister and they lived with their grandmother. I don't know if this is enough information to remember the name of the movie.
