Our bathtub has a price pfitser bathtub drain assembly, and the last tenants for some reason took out the rod and the plug assembly which allows the drain to be plugged so that the tub fills with water. I bougt a new price pfitser drain assembly(the hardware store person said there was only one size price pfitser bathtub drain plug) which I lowered into the opening near the top of the tub, but it will not go down far enough to stop the water from draining out. Since it is physically impossible to look into the pipe from either the upper opening or the opening in the bottom of the tub, and thinking there might be somwething in the way preventing the round plug from dropping into the drain tube, I used an snake from both the upper and lower ends of the assembly, but could not snag anything. So now we are using a rubber plug to keep the water from draining out. Any ideas?

There should be a adjustment on the linkage, (see images) Did he just remove the bucket assembly or is the face plate and trip lever mossing also? Back to you. Tom

Tom Thanks for answering. The face plate was still there, I bought the assembly you show in the picture, and attached the lever with the cotter pin, dropped it in the hole, and no matter how long or short I adjust the rod, the bucket will not fall into the slot so that it stops the water from draining out. I'm thinking that the only possibility is that there is something in the way or else the bucket is the wrong diameter for the hole.

Maybe the tenant removed the rods but not the actual piston shaped plug which could still be logged in then pipe. Makita and others do make a small hand held version of a camera snake which you can rent. I would see if I could get my hands on a small dental mirro and a flashlight to see down that pipe. Tenats do the darnist things to rentals.

The bucket doesn't go into a "slot" but it extends down to a stop in the over flow tube where it blocks off the flow going from the tub drain to the branch of the tee, Did you extend the linkage down as far as it would go? Back to you, Tom
