I got a 96' Pontiac grand am and every time I press the break at a red light or even backing out of my drive way the gears get stuck and I put my foot on the gas but it doesn't move, you can here the engine roaring as if it wants to go but, something is in the way! I do not know much about cars and I keep getting the run around please does any one know what might could be the problem? I was told it might be the gear box but, I don't know what to ask and I am unsure.

The clutch packs are likely shot. You are probably looking at a rebuild or replacement. Check this outfit out--they are well regarded:
