Submersible well pump run continiously till 40 Lb. Then turn power off drops to 0
80 gal epoxy tank,1 hpsta-rite control box,low water pressure, check pump.It constantly running but not going over 38 lbs.when I turn off at power pole pressure drops quickly to 0. I cleaned points, nothing differently, there is small leackage coming from pressure valve, so small could be condensation, may not be realvelant but until a few weeks ago had air in the lines spratically this was for several monthe, then just seemed to go away by itself, no more air in lines, now this. Coinsidence or not, don't know. 2 days ago Ala power changed meter box for a updated one, everything seems to be OK then. I give, can you help thanks Cathy

Sounds like you have a leak in the well pipe down the well. A leak would account for the inability of the pump to achieve a pressure greater than 38 lbs.

When pump is turned off water flows back down the well. That accounts for pressure drop to zero.

When water has drained from well pipe air gets in pipe. When pump comes on again the air is pushed into tank. That would account for the sporadic air in lines.

Thanks for your input, after sleeping on it (so to say)your input and another observation, I have found problem. I have a water pipe in garden, which has busted. Thanks problem solved, now just have to fix. Cathy

Oh yes, forgot important observation. I could hear water being pumped into the tank continuously, so that water had to be going somewhere, duhhhhh, broken pipe in garden thanks Cathy glad not leak in well that would be quiet expensive.

While HK turned out not to be right, I still think he gave a very sensible answer. Leaks after the tank tend to be so visible that they are spotted much more readily than a wellpipe problem. So, a post like Catphil's tends to lead a person more in that direction.

I did not take it that way. No problem on my end. I was just giving HK a little support. He hits a lot of nails on the head on this board.

Thanks for the support, neither did I take it adversely Cathy.

We give the best advice we can based on what we are told. We can't fault the poster for not telling us everything. If they knew what was wrong they wouldn't be asking the question.

I'm just glad the problem was an easy fix. If I made you think, I did my job.
