Basement stairs WELL floor not complete.
I was replacing the stairs down to the base. I removed the old stairs and all of the previous owners garbage from the well the stairs were installed in when I noticed that the floor was not complete. I dug down a little bit and noticed the water was filling the hole I dug. I want to replace the stairs but I think I need to do something about the missing basement floor and the water?? Help help help.

Yes you certainly should do something about filling in the missing basement floor. I am assuming that the remainder of the floor is concrete. You probably should also cut out the concrete floor around the walls, install drainage pipe and a sump pump.

Now I have to ask; Why did you ask this question on the Cars and Trucks form?

I clicked on construction and didn't see it went to Cars and Trucks. I reposted it in construction.

    Thanks

Sounds like a possible place for a sump pump to be put it. What type of floor is already there? How quickly did the hole fill with water when you started digging?

This well is leading out of the basement. There is a sump with a pump about 20' away, actually in the basement. This well is outside the basement walls there is a doorway leading to the garage. The garage floor is about 6' higher then the well and basement floor I am talking about. I think when the house was being built, when they were pouring the basement floor, they ran out of concrete and didn't complete it. I will try to get some pics tomorrow. When I went back to the house tonight the water level was up to the top of the footer and stopped there. It took about an hour or so to get to that level. I must say too, the sump pump normally runs about every 2 or so hours.

I guess the well could be the same as if you had a BILCO DOOR outside but this well is going intothe garage. Also it's the only stairs to the basement. There are not stairs from inside the house to the basement.

Post pictures. When you said well, I thought you were saying stairwell. Now it sounds like you mean a hole in the ground beside the exterior stairwell.
