    Pharmacy hipaa violations
Is it common practice or a hippa violation for an Emergency room to call a pharmacy or call around to other pharmacies to see if the medication list you gave them was correct without the patients permission? Or to find out the prescribing doctor or the amount of medications that was prescibed for a patient without the patients knowledge.

No its not a violation for the emergency room to try to find this information. In fact I would consider it very responsible treatment.

It would be a violation for the pharmacy to reveal info unless they are sure that it is being given to someone providing care for the patient.

As for without permission, you probably want to reread the admission paperwork you signed. I would suspect you will find you DID give permission.

And one medical professional and release your information to another medical professional about your treatment.
But yes this would be fairly nomal esp if there was a reason to believe the patient was not giving proper info
