I have a toilet drain pipe that is cast iron on a second floor apartment. The toilet flange is connected to this part of the pipe that runs threw the roof outside for ventilation. It is rotted away. What would be my options for replacing this part of the pipe? Can I use a fernco and some pvc?

Yes, cut our the bad cast iron and transition to PVC using a Fernco Shielded Coupling in the correct size. Good luck, Tom

You are not telling us how you plan to cut the Cast Iron pipe...

Hi all...

Not only did he not mention the way he will cut the cast iron, Milo... I'm also wondering if it is possible that the flange itself can be removed and replaced with a new TWIST AND SET flange... no need to touch the pipe. A good plumber could come in and crack the old flange off and simply pour a new joint with a new cast iron flange, as well.

I'm also wondering if the flange can be saved? As we know, if the flange is only cracked on one side of the flange then a SPANNER FLANGE may be a useful fix for this situation.

Anyway, just wondering aloud... ;)

Well, I was thinking of using soil pipe cutters to cut the pipe. But I think I have to cut the cast iron below the second floor because the pipe is rotted right where the elbow for the toilet flange meets the drain pipe. I have a pic but I don't know how to upload it. Can anyone tell me how it's done.
