I need to know what the painting industry is using as a standard square foot price when doing an estimate for completing venetian plaster. Currently, painters charge a basic .70 cents per square foot price. Is 1.25 a square foot too much or too little for that kind of work since that stuff has to be hand applied?

True. Do you happen to know what people are charging to do a custom venetian plaster finish in today's market. I usually do this kind of work for nothing for family members only. But I have someone that is interested in paying for my time and trouble. Venetian plaster is a lot of work. I thought that the average cost might be some where in the .70 cent to $1.25 range but I'm not sure if I'm even in the right ball park. I normally charge on a per hour base.I estimate the time and materials,add where needed for getting the supplies, tools,etc.Then I can write a bid for a job based on what I want to make per hour, it took me a while to come up with a method that worked, being in so many areas of the trades.

Some jobs you'll get,some others you'll overbid, test the customer,imagine what they would be willing to pay for a service like this and bid accordingly.

Imagine if you charged an even $1.00, the job consists of what?How long does it take to do it,to your satisfaction.At the end of that project,how much money did you make per hour?Is it what you want to make or was it more than expected(+,+),or less than(-,-), and adjust the next jobs accordingly.

This is my experience in bidding, perhaps others can shed light as to how they bid jobs like this:)

I just did a job for a costumer a wall 8x18 and I charge $3.75 $540.00
the costumer told me that someone else was charging $5.00 sq ft so I think
I OK, I will offer it to more costumers

I did a job and don't know how much to charge. The design I did was a checker board. Hard as hell man. Anyway 8x19 two colors. What do I charge and how do I get that glass finish I burnished till my arm almost fell off and its good and shinny but my customer wants the super shine so I got a buffer and still she is wanting the glass look. Tried top coat, bee's wax, what can I use?. help
