How much does a parent have to pay for college tuition in nys
I am the non-custodial parent, or I was my son is now 21. My ex-husband is now taking me to court to continue support. I used to be the one getting support but my son moved in with his dad 5 yrs ago. My son works full-time and has for at least 3 yrs now. My ex wants child support to continue. Im fighting this because he has been laid off from his job over a year ago, but I've been told everyone has been called back. Can a judge make me pay college costs and make my ex pay hardly anything because he isn't working? I was wondering how this is based on in NY and if ajudge can force a parent to pay. My son and his father chose a private college without me even being a part of the decision and I still don't know how much he owes. I've been left out of everything and now they want my money. PS.. My son has been convinced by my ex not to have anything to do with me and Im trying to get him back in my life and realize he's been told wrong..

Did you got to court to modify the custody an support orders when he moved in with his dad?

Support ends at 21 in New York unless there is something else stated before this point. Its not likely they are going to continue support unless there were some medical reason to extend it.

The only reason I went to court back then was to stop child support to me, and for my ex to receive child support... my ex wants me to continue paying so my son can still live in the apartment they were sharing together.. my son had told me before that his dad moved out years ago and my son has had the place all to himself. I heard that the court clerk told my ex that child support can continue till 23 at times... I think that's why he is trying so desperately... he's only getting unemployment and my extra income to him Im sure came in handy...

That involved a change of custody. So, if he is trying to get the support extended, he will have to prove he's caring for and supporting your son. Doesn't sound like he can.
