    Lock nuts vs. acorn nuts
I am putting an outdoor glider together and am curious as to why the back of the glider is fastened with acorn nuts, but the bottom of the seat is secured with lock nuts. Can anyone explain this to me?

I'm assuming the acorn nuts are on visible bolts or screws... while the lock nuts are hidden from view normally.

So in that case it's a matter of cost... Acorn nuts cost more than simple lock nuts. So they use them only where clean visual estetics are important.

Got it. Thanks again... I'll know next time. Just never ran into this before.

Acorn nuts are decorative. Remember that they will probably have a threadlocker applied.

I know aircraft engines typically use castle nuts and may have a wire through all the bolts and castle tops.

Some places use acorn nuts if the
Bolts are in the open,so if you rub against them the threads of the bolt will not scatch you.
