Wondering why my ferrets paper work is wrong?
I got a ferret from a person selling them on a local classified webpage anyway I checked out her paper work, vet records, and it all matched what the lady told me. Her story was.. the ferrets were shipped to canada from spain (there were twenty of them) and were supposed to be used for breeding. Supposivly they weren't the right age and were abandoned with the lady (supposivly it was her friend who ordered them) she was then going to ship them back to spain but decided to try and sell them here instead. She told me she (the ferret I wanted) was spayed and UTD on her shots. All the paperwork seemed to match what she said when I went to go look at my ferret so I got her.

I later decided to check her tattoo and it is registered to a breeder and hour away from me (pfft, doesn't sound like spain to me!), anyway I called the breeder and he asked for her microchip number, I gave it to him and he said that she was in fact one of his ferrets. I asked him how all of this could have happened and he said someone may have bought the ferrets from him and made it look like they came from spain, he said uneducated people (I'm assuming he meant stupid) may buy them just because they came from out of country (defiantly not why I did).

Since she lied about ALL that I decided to make an appointment with my vet ASAP, she had little experience with ferrets but said she was in fact spayed. I talked to the breeder and he said he gave her shots when she was 8 weeks old, 11, and 14 (I think that's what he said, but he said she was up to date and I just needed her next one in about 6 months) he is going to mail me his records so I have proper ones that I know for sure are legit.

Why would she lie about the ferret? It wasn't stolen, it is not sick from what my vet could see... I just do not understand at all...

How much did you pay for it?

She may have bought the ferret, and then decided to not keep it. Maybe she didn't want it once she found out it was spayed.

People do strange things to get rid of animals. People must think if you add something that sounds rare or make the animal sound more interesting they'll get more money for it. Sometimes it does work... but like I said, people do strange things to get rid of their animals... not to mention lie.

Don't dwell on it. You've gotten in contact with the actual breeder. That's all you need.

I agree with Lucky... they can sell them more easily and for more money if they make them sound more exotic.

If you were an uneducated buyer which one sounds better...

    Locally bred Ferrets - $60
    Imported Spanish Ferrets - $120

FYI, I have no idea what a ferret is worth :p

It's possible that the person you bought it from bought it from someone else, who told her the ferret was from spain. There's no way to know for sure, and you've been able to track down the truth, so it doesn't matter. Just chalk it up to human stupidity.

I only paid $50 (the breeder told me he usually sold them for $70) for her, she's six months old. I bought another little guy a week ago to keep her company when they are alone (not very often) and he was $200 from a pet store that was bred by real canadian ferrets. So she didn't make money... But I guess I won't worry so much now :)
