Ok, here's the deal. I have a Harbor Breeze ceiling fan w/light assembly. I've had it about 8 months and it uses the 40 watt candelabra lights. I was sitting in the room with the fan and all the sudden the one of three lights got really bright. Because they are normally not very bright I thought this was an improvement while also knowing that the light would blow out soon and I would have to replace it. Well, it did blow out and now, none of the three lights work. I replaced all of the bulbs and no luck. I removed the remote control unit thinking it might have been fried, no luck. I checked the wiring and still no luck.

I have pretty much disabled the whole unit and can’t find anything wrong. Yes the fan works and it is connected to the switch on the wall.

Any suggestions??

Switch on the wall must be on 24/7 for your remote to work. Where are you with the assembly right now, remote attached or removed?

The remote assembly is removed. Just to reiterate, the fan words fine but none of the lights work. Thanks in advance :)

I know you have a remote, but is there also a chain switch on the fan for the light?

Yes I have tried the light switch and as a matter of fact, by-passed the switch altogether with a direct connection to the light assemblies.

Make that the pull chain switch. Sorry for any confusion.

So even when you bypass the switch it's not working? You've had the fan 8 months, did you recently put it up or has it been up for 8 months?

ZoeMarie, it has been up the whole time and worked perfectly unitl now. Never seen anything like it. One light bulb burns out and none of them work. It's like they're be wired in series. Well, I know that isn't the case so I have no idea what to try short of pulling the whole thing down and taking in completely apart.

I worked with ceiling fans and lighting at a home improvement center for almost 6 years but haven't heard of your particular problem. Seems a bit strange. You've only been putting in 40 watt bulbs, right?

Yes, only 40 watt bulbs installed. If I have time, I will pull the whole thing down and grab a meter and see what I can find out. I'll post my results.

Sounds to me like the bulb blowing burned out the remote receiver, and when you removed the remote receiver, you didn't wire it right. Check all your wiring at the ceiling and at the light kit.

I just recently moved into a home that has the same problem in 2 of the bedrooms. I can't figure out why the ceiling fan portion works but the light does not even though I replaced the bulbs.

Hey Deb, you tied onto an old post so I did not see this question right away. Are you a bit handy and do you have a tester or meter?

After about 6 months of working just fine, the lights on the ceiling fan would turn on for a couple of seconds, and then go out. The fan worked just fine. We were using the original light bulbs.
After calling Lowe's for assistance, they put me in contact with Ellington (apparently, the manufacturer?) at (800) 527-1292. I explained the problem and gave them the model and serial numbers.
They sent me a replacement light kit, no questions asked.

I have had my ceiling fan for 2 months. While sitting in my living room all of a sudden one of the light bulbs popped out leaving the socket of the light bulb still in the light fixture. Smoke coming from that light fixture.

The rest of the light bulb is still in the light fixture. Spooky.

You had a faulty bulb that finally failed, not a fan problem most likely.

I have a similar problem, fan works, all three light burnt out at once when wall switch was turned on. Replaced blubs, checked wiring, no luck yet. What about the capacitors, could that be replaced?

Never mind, it was the govener, the other black box in there, not the capacitor. I replaced it, works fine.
