Is there such thing as a midwife that doesn't deliver babies but does everything else?

You may be thinking of a montrice. This would be someone who is trained to assess the labor and mother's and baby's well-being but does not actually deliver. Depending on where you are located, there may or may not be many practicing.

A doula is another role that offers physical and emotional support for a mother or family during labor and birth, and often during pregnancy and postpartum. In this profession, physical assessments are not part of the practice.
