    How much/often do you smoke?

There are various "quit smoking" aids out there but many of them have warnings about age.

Have you asked a Physician for help - or simply attempted to stop?

I was a 2 pack a day smoker many, many years ago. I decided it was unhealthy (I had pneumonia) and I was going to stop and I stopped cold. I obviously wasn't addicted (as other people are) but I stopped cold.

And, yes, the first month was rough.

Well, since you are only 13, just getting cigarettes to smoke isn't so easy. Plus, you probaby have to hide your habit since you are so young. I can't imagine any adult allowing you to smoke in front of them. You can't smoke while you are in class, or on the bus or riding in the car with your parents or any other parent. How do you afford buying a pack of cigarettes? Who buys them for you?

All those things are a plus on quitting. Either ask your parents for help quitting, or do what it takes, yourself. That means making sure you won't have the opportunity to smoke another cigarette as well as committing to quitting. It will help if you maximize the time you have doing things where smoking a cigarette would be out of the question.

    SMOKING ISN'T COOL ANYMORE.

More and more smokers are finding that the places they can smoke are shrinking. It is a crime to buy cigarette if you are a minor. It is a crime to sell cigarettes to a minor. It is a crime to provide cigarettes for a minor. However you are getting your cigarettes, you are having someone commit a crime for you. Think about that.

Start by not sneaking out to smoke that next cigarette. Then do that again, and again.

WHAT EVER YOU DO, KEEP TRYING! Most ex smokers had to try more than once.

    Good luck!

    Hi Naomi,

I'm trying to pack it in myself, finding it hard too.

I didn't start smoking when I was young, it was much later, the day my Dad died suddenly, I wish I'd never started.

Every time you need a smoke pop a piece of gum into your mouth, some people just buy lots of packs of ordinary gum, that sometimes works for them.

Others will buy a bag of lollypops and put those in their mouths instead of a gigarette, again sometimes this does work.

If you are able to see a Doctor without your parents, then that would be good, I'm sure he could give you good advice and something to help you.

In the mean time try and avoid situations where you know your going to want or are going to be expected to have a smoke... friends that smoke... having nothing to do, try and keep your mind occupied with something, if you do feel the urge to smoke, try to not smoke a whole ciggarette, just what you feel you need then put it out.

Maybe next time you can smoke a little less, the time after less again until you finally beat it.

You can do it... let me know how you're doing.

    Goodluck

Some of the solutions you have suggested are dangerous for a person the OP's age.

I would suggest consulting a Physician and/or Pharmacist.

Federal law prohibits the sale of nicotine containing products of any type to anyone under the age of 18.

Physiology of a 13 yo is different in significant ways from adults. Very dangerous area with any psychoactive substance.

As the previous post has said, you would not be allowed to try the patches or the gum... age retricted products.

Some one is obviously buying cigarettes for you...

Naomi, I know it's hard but try your very best not to ask them again, they will also be in serious trouble should they be found out.

Naomi... a big WELL DONE, I'M VERY PROUD OF YOU.

Keep it up, I new you could do it, no more smelly hair, fingers, clothes or yellowing teeth, not to mention sneaking around trying to grab a puff here and there.

I am so pleased for you, I wish you loads of luck for the future.

Again I have to say... WELL DONE
