We have a six year old doxie (which we've had from a pup) who is crated when we are not at home and overnight. She does fine with that, even knows to go there when I leave or it's bedtime. She does pee outside some, but then randomly (it seems) pees in the house. We will be home and she will sneek into the bedroom closet or the hallways and pee without even letting us know that she has to go out, and she poops in the back bedroom or the closet virtually all the time. She will go outside, wander around, look like she squats to pee, then walk inside, go to the bedroom and pee. We have scrubbed the carpets so much I'm amazed there is any carpet left! There does not seem to be any rhyme nor reason to it. Can anyone help??

You may have to go back to the basics with her. Start all over again as if she were a pup. As soon as you get home, pick her up from her kennel and take her out side. When she pees or poops out side, praise, praise, praise. Make a huge deal out of it. Even give her a small treat. If she is squatting and looking like she is peeing, you may have to spend a little more time out side with her.

How do you let her out now? Is she fenced or tied?

She could just be excited that you guys are home, and rushing to get inside to see you guys. One of you may have to actually sit out side with her for more than a minute or two.

As soon as she eats or drinks, take her out side and wait for her to do her business. Remember unless you catch her red pawed you can't discipline, she doesn't understand why you are upset if you are just yelling and pointing at the mess. She understands that you don't like the mess on the floor, but doesn't understand that it's the act of doing it that is really upsetting and un excepted behavior.
