Does anyone know any good sources for support groups?
I have posted questions here before. I live in NYC, and I know there are groups out there. I have tried to look on the internet, but it is difficult to sort through. Does anyone know of any good website or other source that can give me good strong references for support groups? My wife and I are separated, facing divorce, I am so lost because there has been no reasoning that is clear as to why and it is truly starting to destroy my life. I want to reach out to all that I can, but I am very isolated and alone, I would very much like to find a group that I can meet with.

What sort of support group? What are the issues you would like to address with a group?

Parents without Partners is a good group for people who are facing parenting alone - some are divorced, some widowed, some choose to parent alone. I also found a great group through a local church - it was not a church in my own faith and that turned out not to really matter. And to just get out of the house with other single people without a lot of pressure to date or anything, I'd recommend looking into "Meet Up". They are national and people have all kinds of Meet Up groups. I belong to one that's for people in a particular age group who are single and want to meet other single people in a group setting to just go do fun stuff. We go whitewater rafting, hiking, to wine tastings, trips to Europe - whatever you can imagine doing. Good luck to you!

I am looking for a separated/divorced mens group. I am not sure about the issues, I am just trying to reach out and find support for what I am going through.

Ask a reference librarian at your public library. There should be a list of local support groups, where and when they meet, along with contact information. If that fails, check with the chamber of commerce for your village.

    Hi, garbanz!

You might also want to check with one or more local churches as to groups that are available to attend. A lot of the meetings, no doubt, would be happening in churches.

Also, with any kind of support group, a person might need to actually go to one meeting first, in order to get the most comprehensive and up to day listings of the meetings that are available, as these might not be available through any other source, outside of participants in the groups.

    Thanks!
