    Basement bathroom mess!!
My basement bathroom toilet is clogged and it looks to be backing up into the shower in that bathroom. I have used the plunger but the water in the toilet will not recede. Any ideas?

Your main sewer line is blocked and someone up stairs is using water. Tell them to stop and snake the main sewer line to clear the blockage.

After snaking pour very hot water down shower drain. This will melt any grease that is left in pipe.I do this the first of the month as preventive maintenance to all my drains. Also if u have a disposal in kitchen sink, run hot water for about a minute after disposal is shut off. This will help remove grease in line. Cold water will solidify it.

    Good luck

You have a blockage downstream from your shower. You can go after this from several places.
    1) Pull the toilet and snake from there.
    2) Snake from the shower drain **OR**
    3) Snake from the lavatory roof vent.
    Good luck, Tom
