Ceiling fan wiring with transmitter, remote, and 2 switches?
I installed a few other fans in the house that didn't have remotes and they were very easy to install/wire.
I am trying to install an outdoor ceiling fan at my house which is brand new and had a prewire installed during construction. The fan I am installing in a Hampton Bay Veranda II which has a transmitter in the fan canopy and remote control to adjust the light and fan speed. The remote does not take batteries so it needs to be wired. I can't seem to get power to the remote. There is a red light that should turn on when you press a button but it doesn't seem to have any juice.
A couple questions:
- I have a hampton bay wireless remote with batteries from my last place. Can I just use this to control the fan assuming the DIP switches are set the same and the switch for powering the fan is on?
- The house wiring is set up to allow one switch for the fan and one for the light but the receiver in the fan has all the fan wiring including the blue for the light going into it and only a black and white wire coming in from the ceiling wires. Not a huge deal but it would be nice if I could use the remote to set the fan speed and light dim one time and then use the switches from then on.
Here are some pictures of the wiring behind the switches inside. The switches on the far right and left are currently in use for an ourdoor light and an indoor light. The last picture shows a bunch of wires that are capped in the back. It wasn't connected to the original switches that were installed.
