    Professional Portfolio. Useful?
I graduate on 5-6 with my degree in Early Childhood education. I'm finishing up my professional portfolio now and was wondering a few things.
I was hired by Head Start and they never even asked to see it, does anyone look at these things?
I was told to write reflectoins on everything in the portfolio, so what I have done is basically said "this is indicative of my knowledge of..." Is this right?
Do you have a portfolio? How big is it approximately and do you use it or update it often?

    Hi, alesha8781!

I'm assuming that you mean a portfolio with examples of things that you've done; perhaps some things that students have done, and maybe some pictures as well as maybe some letters of recommendation.

    Would that be correct?

I have a professional portfolio that I like to keep updated.

    Thanks!

Yeah, that's excatly what I mean. I have projects, and tests I have taken. Along with NAEYC statements and DEC recommended practices and codes of ethics and stuff like that.

Do future employers ever look at your portfolio? Or do you keep it updated for your own purposes?

Mine is due today (I graduate Thursday) I hope my adviosr likes it, she told one of my friends that theirs was garbage. Wish me luck!

I use a portfolio at the end of an interview. If they don't ask for one, I ask them if they'd like to see it.

It's best to keep the portfolio brief and well-structured with a good variety of material without hardly any repeats based on a similar theme.

I hope that things went well when you handed it in!
