As many know from other posts I broke my leg in a couple places this week on Monday.
They have been really good, set me to the hospital, doctors and had it all billed to the company. They have given me a wheel chair and crutches.

MY question has to do with workers comp paying my salary while I was off. I was told that I would have to use 3 days of my personal time before they started paying. It is not that I don't have plenty of personal time but does anyone know the rules on this from Georgia

Sadly I don't know the ruling in the states but in the UK you can claim statury sick pay & it does not effect your holiday entitlement, I'm sure in the states there is something similar, also if this was an accident at work the company is completely liable and can't class it as holiday time and deduct your allowance, if it's work related I would be looking for a solicitor and getting a claim filled for loss of earnings, pain & suffering and expences i.e. travel whilst your unable to drive etc, I hope this helps, maybe it's worth a call to your local employment advice centre or union if you're a member? Ok, did not want to stir too much up, we don't have a real HR department and I report to a manager over several locations who has no idea about workers comp rules. I guess from what I have read, the three days is great, since it does appear I could have lost a weeks pay before they started paying. So using my personal days for just 3 was a company rule.

Again this is a great company, normally offering better benefits than most companies. So I guess this was just one of them.

Guess I had figured, work place accident, I should not be out any pay at all. Oh well.

What you describe a 3 day waiting period is not uncommon, actually longer periods are more common (barring a contract stating otherwise).

If you think about it, it makes some sense... if there were no waiting period anyone who had an injury of any kind and missed a day of work would be collecting, which would skyrocket the amount of claims and the costs along with it.

I am not familiar with Georgia, but in MA the wait is generally a week.

Yep, it's a week with no pay before the WC kicks in. And remember it's not going to be your exact weekly pay either but a good portion of it that you will receive.
