I am 7 weeks pregnant and I'm already expanding round the middle.. is this normal?

I think it can be different person to person.

My wife went quite some time before anyone could tell, other than some clothes became gradually tighter, whereas my cousin almost immediately has put on some weight very early with each of her kids.

Kp is absolutely right. It is not only different for every woman, but it is different for every pregnancy. With my third child I did not even begin to "show" until about 6 months. With my last child I was "showing" at 9 weeks.

So, this could be normal for you for this pregnancy.
