Why is my kitchen sink draining via the outside cleanout?
Hi, I have a problem I've never encountered before, and have no idea where to look. My sink is draining just fine, BUT it's spews water straight out the side of the house onto the grass. The cleanout drain on the house brick does not have a cover, I assume this is why the sinks have not backed up inside. I ran a snake about 12 feet into the cleanout and did not encounter any clogs. Where to look for problem? Thanks!

I would run a garden house into the clean-out, turn it on, and see if the water backs up. If it does, then get RotoRooter or a plumber in to unclug it, and then replace the clean out cap. If it doesn't back up, then the only problem is that missing cover - so replace it!

    1) Youhave a blockage downstream from the cleanout.
    2) A 12 foot snake isn't going to get it. Rent a sewer snake or call in outside help.
    3) purchase a cleanout cover. Trash and debris will clog the line if you don't
    4) good luck, Tom

Thanks for both your help! I ran the water hose inside the outside drain, but the water immediately came back out. It did not back up in the sink at all. I should mention that the cover has not been on in the year and a half I've lived here, but it has never done this before. I will rent the sewer snake this weekend when my son can (hopefully) help!
