    As we know, one connection type must be flanged on a flange, while what's the gender of the other side?
    I list some here,
    Flanged - threaded, threaded is a female connection;
    Flanged - weld neck, it's a butt welded connection, a male connection;
    Flanged - socket welded, it's a female socket welding connection;
    Then... how about the follows,
    Flanged - Lap joint, what's the gender of lap joint?
    Flanged - Slip on, what's the gender of slip on?
    :confused::confused::confused::confused:
    Who can tell me the truth? Thanks in advance.

    Does anybody here know that?

    If I understand you correctly the inside flanges are male while the outside ones are female, the threaded flanges are male. (see images) Cheers, Tom Just a after thought, I have heard of flanges that are bisexual, (both male and female) that swing both ways. Never saw one but they are called, "Gay Flanges" and come in pink plastic.

    OK, I understood.
    Then you mean lap joint and slip on are female, right?

    KISS

    This comes up in electrical too. You have standard sex, reverse sex and hermapadite connectors.

    In standard sex, the pins determine the sex and the pins and the shell have the opposite sex.

    In the second case the case sex is the same as the pin

    And the last is very special. An example is the IEEE-488 bus connector.
