Took her to the vet they did tests and sent me home with eye drops and to watch her. This morning she passed out and I rushed her in to the vet - they did more blood work found that she had horribly low blood sugar, calcium and potassium - she is almost starved to death - she is there on IV getting some glucose calcium and potassium via her I've - she has responded some - and her blood sugar is a bit high now - they were warming her and her temp came back up a bit.

Has anyone ever dealt with this ? Is this just getting into recovery perhaps too fast with the feeding threw her into a blood sugar rollercoaster?

Suggestions for vet? They are keeping her through the weekend.

So far they think could be chronic liver stent, pancreatitis and just plain recovering from starvation - they do not know but are doing their best to stabelize her

With cats and starvation I worry about hepatic lipidosis. Keep us posted, hopefully she does well.

Today - I just heard from the vet who checked her. She has had no glucose or other electrolytes since yesterday afternoon and is maintaining them on her own. She has started eating - they are feeding her little and often. She is walking around and is annoyed by the IV which are both good signs. She is going to remain there on IV today and they have taken her down to maintenance only. She has these head bobbles every once in a while and the vet thinks she may have had a bit of brain damage. She is also on antibiotics because they felt sepsis could also have been a factor even though they saw nothing abnormal on her x-rays.

They are going to call me with an update this evening as well - and then again Monday am.

I am thinking I'd like them to keep her there at least one more day to be sure she is strong enough and eats and drinks on her own rather than bring her home earlier and risk rushing back.

She is also now maintaining her own body temp and it's normal today.

Please reply with any thoughts on her length of stay - I know they do better in a home environment but this was pretty traumatic for her and I want to give her the best chance.

They will be doing a full blood workup on Monday as well again.

I think it will be fine. They want to be absolutely sure that she is okay before sending her home - the last thing you need is for her to relapse and have to take her back, when she could have just been there in the first place.
She will be fine. While they do better emotionally in a home environment, you cannot provide the amount of medical attention she needs right now.

Thank you - I appreciate the information. She is really a sweet tiny little kitty - and so very horribly thin. I am so glad I took her and they were able to get her back on her feet. I don't want her to have to go through all that again and they are doing a wonderful job with her. I've gone to this vet for close to 15 years now and while not every outcome has been perfect - some things can not be fixed - they are compassionate and very good.

The vet called last night and Lucky was doing even better - they were going to stay with what they are doing - check in at 10am today to see if they are going to try her without the IV fluids and see if she'll drink on her own and maintain.

Lucky is off her IV - eating / drinking on her own - and maintaining her electrolytes and blood sugar! She is still wobbly - vet is ready for her to come home at 5:30 this evening!!

She is a super girl!

Will keep updating as she hopefully continues to improve.

I'm glad you're willing and able to take care of her. It's rare that someone puts that much time, effort, and money into a foundling kitten. She's truly lucky to have found you.

I feel lucky to have found her - she is doing so much better - she is still very thin but her coat is improving, and she is taking interest in washing and starting to try to do other kitty like things. I don't think she's out of the woods but she's walking down the path.

She is very sweet and affectionate.

Lucky is doing very well - she has put on weight and no longer has the bobblehead thing going. She runs up and down stairs and is playful and affectionate.

She is now starting to become integrated with the rest of our kitty family.

I love when I hear of people taking in foundlings like this and making them part of their family ^_^
