Part-time job, no federal taxes withheld?
I'm an independent that files jointly with my wife. I have a full-time job making over $30,000 a year. I just started working a part-time job where I estimate I'll make about $4,000 a year.

I have received two paychecks so far. The first one has just Medicare and SS taken out but the second one also had state tax taken out (VA). Should federal taxes also be taken out? I asked my supervisor about this and he said many people who work there don't have taxes taken out. I just don't want to end up paying a lot when tax time comes around. I usually get back between $1,000 and $1,300 filinf jointly.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you want money withheld, adjust your W-4 to SINGLE with ZERO allowances and see what happens. If nothing is withheld, then submit another W-4 and designate how much you want withheld from each paycheck.

However, remember that ANY refund is an nterest-free loan to the U.S. government!

Proper money management says you should strive to have NO refund due and, ideally, you want to write a check for something under $1,000 come 15 April 2011.
