Why am I so out of breathe when I walk/run?
Hello, I am a 19 year old female. I am currently 180lbs at 5'4, I used to weigh 225 but went on a diet and lost some weight and am currently >180<. I moved 350 miles away from home back in August and I stopped exercising and eating healthy because I basically became depressed and lonely because I don't have many friends and am shy when it comes to working out in front of strangers.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is, I recently decided enough is enough and I want to start losing weight again(about another 40-50 pounds). So, today I went for (half a mile)brisk walk and (half a mile)light run. I noticed when I started walking, not even walking fast, that I was extremely out of breathe. Like, as if I had already been running. My question is, could this be due to be out of shape for so long and just not being used to it, or should I be concerned?

Thanks to anybody who helps. (:

I would say it is lack of endurance from being out of shape, or from not doing much in the winter time. I always feel slugish after till about April when I get out to do some stuff. Thyroid problems could also make you tired. Odds are you just need to start walking a little at a time to get endurance back up.

I've had my thyroid checked and everything was fine. So, I'm guessing it probably is just from being so out of shape. Thanks so much for your answer.

Did they do all 3 thyroid tests? Or just the main one? Lots of dr's will only do the one and a problem will not show up. As far as getting your endurance back, walking and swimming are very good for this, you can also do any cardio workouts. Eat right and calorie intake and counting are as much or even more important then exercise. Give it time. A little walking and you will start to feel much beter. Good job on your weight loss so far, that's great!
